What We Do

Programming
Girl CHARGE hosts programs at local schools, churches, libraries and other community sites.  Programs are typically eight to ten weeks, though Saturday “blitz” workshops and weeklong summer camps are also offered.
Contact us if you are interested in bringing a program to your site, or enrolling your daughter in a program.

Girl CHARGE offers two programs for upper elementary and middle school girls: Full of Ourselves and Club/Camp Ophelia.

Full of Ourselves
Full of Ourselves is a program for healthy, growing girls in middle school.  The goal of the program is to help girls stay healthy and confident by teaching them attitudes and behaviors about eating, exercise and body image.  The program emphasizes girls’ personal power and contains a range of units that foster:

* Increased self and body acceptance

* Healthier eating and exercise habits

* Leadership and media literacy skills

* Coping skills for resisting unhealthy peer and cultural pressures

Each unit ends with a "Call to Action" to help girls translate their new-found knowledge into positive action at school, home, and in their community. Older girls are trained as peer leaders and given the opportunity to pass along their learning to younger peers.  Upon completing their eight weeks of afterschool programming, the middle school girls will present the program highlights to younger girls, and interact with these girls in a variety of activities, skits, etc as they lead this new group.

Club/Camp Ophelia
Camp Ophelia is focused on helping girls create change in our society.  By teaching girls that teasing, social exclusion, and other forms of female bullying (known as relational aggression) are not the norm, girls have the knowledge and power to transform their relationships and create an impact bigger than imagined.

The camp utilizes a fun, interactive, arts-based curriculum that involves drama, visual arts and other artistic mediums.  The goal of the camp is to educate the girls on the concept of relational aggression and how it hurts girls, to relate this to their lives, and finally to integrate the newly formed ideals into their own lives, as well as those of others.  For further information on the curriculum, visit the Camp Ophelia national website at www.clubophelia.com.
